Plastering & renderingin Cardiff & South Wales

Through our sister trade, Sycamore Plastering. Skim, full re-plaster and external render, ready for paint first time.

Plastering is the layer that connects every other trade in the room. Done well it disappears under the paint. Done badly it shows up the moment the light hits the wall. Our plastering team works exclusively with the bathroom side, so the finish is to a tile-spec standard even on the walls that will see paint rather than tile.

Skim coats over existing sound plaster, full re-plaster onto fresh boards, scratch and float coats on stripped brick, dot-and-dab where needed for thermal upgrade, sand and cement render externally for newly exposed walls.

For renovations, period properties needing repair plaster, damp wall remediation after a leak, render replacement on bathroom external walls, and the connecting trade between strip-out and tile.

How a plastering & rendering job runs.

Every job is run the same way: same team, same trades, same approach. The notes below are how we think about plastering & rendering specifically.

i.

Skim coats

One or two coats of multi-finish plaster over sound substrate. Polished flat for paint, keyed for tile.

ii.

Full re-plaster

Stripped back to brick, scratch coat, float coat, finish coat. Suitable for damp-affected walls or bowed runs.

iii.

External render

Sand and cement, K-rend, monocouche. Bathroom external walls and small render repairs.

iv.

Damp remediation

After a leak is fixed, we replaster the affected wall once it is dry, with salt-resistant render where needed.

Frequently asked.

Can you plaster over old tile glue?
Sometimes. We knock back the worst, apply a bonding agent, and skim. If the wall is too uneven we re-board.
Will the plaster crack on a bathroom wall?
Not if it is keyed for tile and the substrate is sound. We use the right plaster for the wall it is going on.
How long until I can paint?
A skim takes 5 to 10 days to dry properly. We hand back with timings written on the quote.
Do you do external render too?
Yes, through the same team. Sand and cement, K-rend, monocouche in the right grades.

Let's talk about the space.

A few photos and a sketch of the room is usually enough for a first quote. For anything structural or tricky, we come and look.
